Starting with CanAm Karate Newmarket

The easy first move here is booking your child's free introductory lesson. The school's website puts that offer right up front, so it's the natural way in for a kid trying karate for the first time.

The doors open six days a week, from morning until 9:30 at night, and stay closed Sundays. The school says its instructors begin by learning about your goals. Then they guide you toward them in a fun, welcoming setting.

Karate, kickboxing and kids' camps

Once you're signed up, the school names kickboxing, karate and Japanese Jiu-Jitsu among its programs. It reports running over 100 classes a month. It describes the training as built for any skill level.

For school breaks, it lists a kids summer camp and a March Break camp. One reviewer's son went to the camp and came home with new friends.

CanAm Karate Newmarket holds a 5.0 rating from 109 Google reviews. Reviewers mostly mention patient, caring instructors and kids who gain confidence and discipline. A few families say they tried other schools before settling here.

Newmarket gets 859 mm of precipitation and 122 cm of snow a year, per Environment Canada normals for 1981-2010.

Before that first lesson, have a clear idea of what your child hopes to get out of training. The school names self-defence, fitness and confidence as goals, and the instructors start by asking about yours.
